Dr. Moyer’s research focuses on the study of nanoscale phenomena of physical and biological systems using novel homebuilt laser scanning confocal microscopy and associated ultrafast techniques. These techniques provide a unique combination of very high spatial and temporal resolution which provide information not easily captured by any other techniques. Specific projects include: (1) using these tools to study the effect of gold plasmonic structures on the electronic and optical properties of single quantum dots and (2) tracking the speed and stepping motion of individual myosin motor proteins as they process along actin filaments under various conditions.
