Southeastern Business Management graduate Sarah Spears utilizes her business and marketing skills to provide insurance coverage to local businesses in Franklinton, Louisiana. She is employed at her father’s insurance company, where she will take over upon his retirement.
“I wear many hats at Spears Insurance,” Sarah says. As a commercial lines agent, she provides businesses with many types of insurance coverages such as liability, property, pieces of equipment, and workers’ compensation. Sarah also operates as a front desk secretary, where she answers phone calls, takes messages, answer questions, takes information for quotes, processes payments and paperwork, ensures weekly bank deposits, and more.
Sarah has been a part of the Southeastern family since before even graduating high school. She was dually enrolled in Southeastern courses during her junior and senior years of high school. Upon graduation, Sarah chose to continue her path at Southeastern for her bachelor’s degree. She says that Hammond is not far from her family, so she chose the university that would give her a sense of freedom, but was also still close to what matters most.
Sarah was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma throughout her entire journey at Southeastern. She says that Southeastern taught her to step out of her comfort zone and join this sorority. She knew no one on that very first day, but now she has friendships that will last a lifetime.
“I loved my time at Southeastern,” Sarah says. She adds that she had an amazing experience with her professors and felt that they all had a true passion for wanting to better their students for future success. Regardless of how tough the courses may have been at times, Sarah felt that her professors and advisors were very supportive and always there to help with scheduling and tough decisions.
Sarah’s words to anyone considering attending Southeastern: “Do it!” She adds, “You don’t feel like a number or a statistic on campus—you are a student and your professors know that. They want you to succeed and do better.”
Sarah loves her career. She loves working alongside her dad, as well as being successful in her small hometown. She attributes so much of her skills and knowledge to Southeastern, and says she would do the entire experience all over again.
