WTI Offers Mini-Scholarships for Industry Certifications

The College of Science and Technology in coordination with the Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce funding for mini-scholarships for information technology industry certifications.  Eligible students must be majoring or minoring in Computer Science or Information Technology.  The College’s Workforce Talent Initiative (WTI) is administering the mini-scholarship program.

If any Computer Science or Information Technology student passes a pre-approved industry certification, they can have the cost of the exam awarded to them as a scholarship. This scholarship does NOT cover the cost of training, education or failed exams.

“Typically, university’s do not emphasize or provide funding for tech industry certifications,” said Dr. John Burris, Chair for the Department of Computer Science.  “We encourage students to earn certifications while in school.  The department has resources in place to help our students prepare for a number of certifications to meet tech industry standards.  We want our students to stand out and demonstrate that they really are real world ready.

Sample recommended certifications include:

  • Amazon Web Service (AWS) Certified Cloud Practitioner

  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate

  • Google Associate Cloud Engineer

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate

  • CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker
