Scholarship Criteria

The Workforce Talent Initiative within the College of Science and Technology seeks to award the following scholarships.  Monies will total up to $250k/year and will be awarded on a per semester basis.  Students are eligible to receive only one WTI sponsored scholarship at a time. Areas of Focus


 

Underserved Populations in Tech (i.e. Female, Low-income, racial/ethnic minorities, non traditional, and first generation students)

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Special consideration will be given to minorities (African American & Hispanic), females, those in need of financial assistance, non traditional (25 years of age or older), and 1st generation college students

  • Priority given to students who are able to exhibit financial need. Preference given to a student who would not be able to attend without financial assistance

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; or a minimum 3.0 high school GPA if a beginning freshman

  • Renewable with progression of 15 hours per semester towards the Computer Science/Information Technology program and good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

 

Veterans

  • Must be pursuing a graduate/undergraduate degree or certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, books, and other college related expenses

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must be a veteran (honorably discharged), National Guard, military service member in good standing, or a dependent of one of those previously listed

  • Must have exhausted the resources of the Post 911 G.I. Bill or have a percentage of Post 911 that does not pay for full tuition and fees. Must also have exhausted Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation

  • Recipients of Chapter 30 benefits will be qualified since they do not receive tuition payments from the VA

  • Reservists may use these funds to cover tuition and mandatory fees not covered by Military Tuition Assistance for the year

  • National Guard may use these funds to cover tuition and mandatory fees not covered by National Guard Tuition exemption

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Eligible to reapply as long as requirements are met

 

Readmit Students

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must have “withdrawn” from college for 1 year or more with no disciplinary issues

  • Renewable with progression of 15 hours per semester towards the Computer

  • Science/Information Technology program and good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

 

5th Year Students

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must exhibit financial need. Preference given to a student who would not be able to attend without financial assistance (TOPS and other aid expiring)

  • Must present verified graduation plan (from advisor or professor) of 2 semesters or less

  • Eligible to reapply for 1 semester if all criteria above are met


Transfer Students

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or certificate in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must have completed 18 credit hours at an accredited university or community college

  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 transfer grade point average AND be in good academic standing

  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Eligible to reapply as long as requirements are met

 

Graduate Students in Tech

  • Must be pursuing a graduate degree in the College of Science and Technology

  • Scholarship funds may be used to cover admission fees (excluding tuition), books, and other college related expenses

  • Priority will be given to individuals employed with a technology firm in the state of Louisiana

  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 AND be in good academic standing

  • Eligible to reapply as long as requirements are met

 

Other WTI Scholarships

 

Grace Hopper Conference Scholarship

  • Must be pursuing one of the following degrees: Computer Science, Information Technology, ISAT
  • Student must be available to participate in the Grace Hopper Conference on the scheduled event days
  • Student must agree to participate in a panel discussion to shared learned information with Southeastern faculty, staff and fellow students

 

Industry Certifications - Mini Scholarship

  • Eligible students must be majoring or minoring in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Computer Science or Information Technology student must pass a pre-approved industry certification and have the cost of the exam awarded to them as a scholarship

  • This scholarship does NOT cover the cost of training, education or failed exams

  • Sample recommended certifications include: Amazon Web Service (AWS) Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Developer – Associate, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+. Note: Others may be eligible. Check with WTI for pre-approval
